| Program Basics Saving
Water Partnership is a regional group of 26
local water providers that helps all of us conserve water. The goal of the program is for
each of us to reduce our use of water by 1% each year for the next ten years. Doing so
will help ensure adequate fresh water supplies for the future.
The goal of this program is to encourage everyone in the
region to reduce their use of water by at least 1% for each of the next ten years. There
are a number of ways to reach the goal of 10% total reduction.
Many of the actions you can take to conserve are free or low cost. Others,
such as buying a new toilet or washing machine will cost initially, but pay for themselves
in a few years through utility savings.
You can choose to take a number of actions and reach your goal right away, or you can
choose to do a little bit each year for each of the ten years. There is no
typical way to meet your goal. For some, it may be easy to meet the 1% goal
each year. Others may find they have been doing a lot to conserve over the years and need
to turn to innovative ways to save more.
Each of us uses water a little differently; some of us water the lawn, many of our homes
have water leaks, even more of us have old toilets that use more than 1.6 gallons per
flush. Find the opportunities that are right for you, and set your goal to reduce your
use. Dont limit yourself to a total of 10%. If you feel you can easily reach
15%
20%, or more, go for it!
